Carlisle Tire factory in Georgia damaged by fire -- reports

Altanta, Georgia -- Local news reports suggest that a large fire at Carlisle Tire and Wheel Company -- located in Bowdon, Georgia -- has destroyed at least one building at the plant and possily more. Carlise could not be reached for comment.
Carlisle bought the plant from Trintex Corp. June 2004. It makes semi-pneumatic tyres and wheels used in the industrial and lawn and garden markets. Carlisle Tire produces specialty tyres and wheels for golf carts, lawn and garden equipment and light trailers-primarily pneumatic-at plants in Carlisle, Philadelphia; Clinton, Tennessee; and Shenzen, China.
Local press reports say no-one was injured in the fire which which broke out early on Sunday morning. Reports said the plant employs 341 people. A local fire chief was quoted saying the building which was destroyed had a floor area of 350 000 square feet (32 500 m2).
