Lanxess raises rubber prices for third successive month

Leverkusen, Germany -- Lanxess AG is to increase its prices for synthetic rubber grades yet again. The latest round of increases affects EPDM, NBR, HNBR, and CR. and is effective 1 Sept., 2008.
The worldwide price increases per metric ton will comprise up to USD 300 for Buna EP (EPDM), up to USD 440 for Perbunan/Krynac (NBR) and up to USD 2,200 for Therban (HNBR). The price adjustment for Baypren (CR) will be set at up to USD 250 per metric ton in the regions Europe and Middle East (EMEA) and Latin America (LATAM).
Lanxess last raised prices on CR and NBR on 1 August; increases on 1 July affected NBR and CR (in the NAFTA region) as well as HNBR and EPDM globally. Prior to that, the company put prices up in 1 April, also affecting NBR, CR, HNBR and EPDM.Â
This latest price hike brings the increase since March to Euro 750/tonne for CR and to Euro 1200/tonne for NBR.
The company said its margins had improved when it announced its first half results in August, meanwhile, the oil price has been dropping, to below $109/barrel this morning.
