Apollo locks out workers at Kerala tyre plant following strike action
ERJ staff report (DS)
Kochi, Kerala, India -- Apollo Tyres Ltd has been forced to temporarily shut operations at its plant in Perambra, Kerala. On August 14, groups of workmen resorted to strike action, bringing sections of the manufacturing process to a halt. Apollo issued a statement saying it stopped operations at the unit early on Saturday morning.
Apollo said it wants to expand operations at the plant, but the unions have not been co-operating. "The Unions have taken a negative and non-cooperative attitude to any production increases, despite the offer of production-linked monetary benefits and incentives. " said the statement.
