Bus, coach sales soar 30% in EU in March

Brussels -- Registrations of busses and coaches in the EU jumped by 31.6 percent in March 2008, compared with March 2007. Over the first quarter, registrations rose by 20.5 percent, with growth in both Western Europe (16.7 percent) and the new Member States (47 percent).
Meanwhile registrations of heavy trucks rose marginally, registrations of mid-sized trucks fell by 1.2 percent and sales of light commercial vehicles fell by 6 percent in the month.
Over the first quarter, however, registrations of heavy trucks grew strongly in both western and central European regions. Similarly registrations of mid-sized trucks grew in all regions during the first quarter, while registrations of light commercial vehicles were stable in the year to March.
