Quebec issues mandate for snow tyres
Quebec city, Quebec, Canada -- The province of Quebec has issued a law requiring all passenger vehicles, taxis and rental cars with Quebec license plates to put on a full set of four snow tyres between Nov. 15 and April 1, beginning in Autumn 2008.
Transport Quebec, the province's transportation agency, said that 90 percent of Quebec residents already use four snow tyres in the winter, but the agency wanted that figure to be 100 percent as a winter safety measure.
A spokesman for Transport Quebec said he had no idea whether Transport Canada, the national transportation agency, or any other provincial agency planned to issue a similar law. Representatives of Transport Canada did not immediately return phone calls, but the Transport Canada Web site urges motorists to use four snow tyres during the winter.
