Dow Reichhold hit by environmental fine in Delaware
Cheswold, Delaware -- The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has fined Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex LLC $40 000 (Euro 27 000) for multiple violations of Delaware's regulations governing air pollution. Additional costs bring the total payable up to $88 593 (Eur 59 700).
The DNREC also issued a notice of administrative penalty assessment and secretary's order to the company.
According to the DNREC, Dow Reichhold makes latex and similar products in batch processes using industrial chemicals such as butadiene and styrene in its Cheswold production facility. Building No. 430 has a permit from DNREC that limits butadiene emissions to no more than 2.316 pounds per hour. The company exceeded this limit on three specific occasions in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex has 30 days to request a public hearing before the order becomes final and payment is due.
