Environment lobby group releases comments on tyre noise, rolling resistance
Brussels - Environment lobbying group, European Federation for Transport and Environment (T&E) has released its comments on the EC discussion document covering tyre noise and rolling resistance.
The group says noise and rolling resistance standards must be applied to retreads as well as replacement tyres and original equipment tyres, and that these standards should be applied without delay.
T&E says a flat noise limit value of 71 dB(A) should be applied to all tyres including car, truck and light truck by 2012, with a further tightening of limits to 69 dB(A) by 2016. It adds, "The limit values are technically feasible and need not compromise other characteristics."
The group says it deplores the lack of ambition of the proposed rolling resistance standards, adding, "The limit values suggested are far from technology-forcing. They are insufficient to make a real difference in the marketplace."
In one area of commonality with the tyre industry. T&E says it,"strongly supports the introduction of accurate tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS)"
