Michelin launches energy saver tyre
Frankfurt, Germany -Â Michelin has raised the stakes once more in the fuel economy battle. The company launched the latest product in its 'Energy' range at the Frankfurt show on Tuesday. The new product is called Energy Saver and promises to deliver a 20 percent improvement in rolling resistance, compared to other leading brands. This translates, said Michelin, to a vehicle saving of 0.2 litres/100 km.
Michelin said it is has focussing on rolling resistance because, contrary to certain preconceived notions, most (86%) of a tyre's environmental impact occurs during use , and not when being manufactured or scrapped.
The Michelin Energy Saver range will be available from replacement tyre dealers in the first quarter of 2008, in sizes covering most of the saloon cars sold in Europe. Already, it has been chosen as original equipment on the new Peugeot 308. Peugeot negotiated a partnership with Michelin for the exclusive use of the technology during the six months following the new car's market launch.
