Laurel Hill, North Carolina--Tyre cord processor Kordsa USA Inc. will invest $22 million through early 2006 to modernise and expand its fabric twisting and weaving plant in Laurel Hill by 40 percent.
Kordsa USA, a unit of nylon yarn maker DUSA International LLC, said the modernisation project will allow it to stay competitive.
The company will build a 216,000-sq.-ft (20 000m2). building on the premises of the existing facility to house new twisting equipment and looms. The expansion will create seven jobs, adding to the 177 already employed, Kordsa said.
The state of North Carolina is supporting the project with a $75 000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which exists to help the state recruit and expand quality jobs.
DUSA International is a global manufacturer of industrial nylon yarn, fabric and single-end cord products for the tyre, mechanical rubber goods, webbing and cordage markets. The Wilmington, Delaware-based firm is a 50/50 joint venture between DuPont Co. and Haci Omer Sabanci Holding A.S. of Turkey.
