Beijing--Local press reports indicate that Sinopec, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corp, is planning to build a 100 kt/year SBR production plant in Shanghai, through its subsidiary, Gaoqiao Petrochemical. AFX Asia quoted the SinopecNews channel saying the company plans to invest Yuan 640 million (€58.4 million) in the project. A separate story in Asia Chemical Weekly (ACW) said construction was due to start in June or July this year.

ACW said the project will be a 75-25 joint venture between Gaoqiao and Asahi, with Asahi contributing the technology for the project, and is due on stream in early 2006
