Robbins L.L.C. buys RBX custom mixing business
From Rubber& Plastics News
MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama (July 12) - Robbins L.L.C. CustoMix and Prevost & Associates L.L.C. have purchased the Hoover-Hanes Custom Mixing Corp. division of bankrupt RBX Corp., effective July 8.
The Tallapoosa, Georgia, manufacturing plant housing the Hoover-Hanes business has been closed since April, but Robbins expects to have the facility back in operation by July 19 to service former customers as well as new ones, the company said.
RBX announced in early February it would shut down the Tallapoosa site, as well as two other plants, and exit the custom rubber mixing sector. On Feb. 24, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Georgia site is the fourth of its six U.S. production facilities to be sold since the filing.
The addition of the Tallapoosa facility allows Robbins to offer the latest state-of-the-art rubber mixing, calendering, extrusion and autoclave curing services, the company said. The 83-year-old firm also has a dedicated color mixing unit and makes envelopes and curing tubes for the retreading market.
