Sumitomo reorganises in Europe

Tokyo-Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd is establishing a new business unit, called Sumitomo Chemical Europe SA/NV-a merger of its two existing European subsidiaries, Sumitomo Chemical Belgium SA/NV and Sumitomo Chemical Deutschland GmbH. The new unit will be established in Machelen, Belgium, this September, said a 12 April statement from the Japanese group.
Sumitomo Chemical Europe will be led by Marc Vermeire, as president and is expected to achive 2004 sales of around Euro100 million. It will manage sales of all Sumitomo Chemical products in Europe, with the exception of agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, the group said.
Sumitomo's portfolio includes Esprene-brand rubber based on ethylene/propylene copolymers, styrene-butadiene rubber and rubber chemicals.
