Yokohama confirms tyre plant in Rayong, Thailand
Yokohama Tire plans to build a truck and bus tyre plant on the Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong, Thailand. The investment will be some ¥5800 million (€43 million). Initial production at a rate of 315 000 units per year will begin in April 2005, but full production (600 000 units per year) will begin at a later (unspecified) date. The company may also decide to build light truck tyres at the plant.
Initial covered area at the plant is 225 000m2, and the unit is expected to create 315 jobs. The plant will be owned and operated by Yokohama Tyre Manufacturing (Thailand), a 95-5 joint venture between Yokohama Tire of Japan and T Siam Commercial Co Ltd, which will distribute the tyres in Thailand.
