Carbon black producer reports 93% increase in ELTs repurposed as circular materials
Marietta, Georgia – Birla Carbon nearly doubled the volume of end-of-life tires (ELTs) repurposed through its Continua circular carbon materials business during its 2026 financial year, ended 31 March 2026.
The company repurposed 64,368 tonnes of waste tires during the period, up 93% from 33,297 tonnes in FY2025, according to its sustainability report published 19 Oct.
The increase follows the expansion of Continua sustainable carbonaceous material (SCM) operations in Europe and Asia, with facilities in Italy and India now “fully operational”, Birla Carbon said.
The company said its ambition to make circular carbonaceous materials available at scale “has become a reality,” supported by a global supply chain and quality management systems.
Birla Carbon is now targeting annual production of more than 100 kilotonnes tonnes of Continua SCM by FY2030.
The material is derived from the pyrolysis of ELTs and can partially replace conventional carbon black in tires, mechanical rubber goods, plastics and coatings.
In February, Birla Carbon inaugurated a Continua finishing and packing line at its Trecate carbon black plant in Italy.
The facility processes recovered carbon materials supplied by Circtec's tire pyrolysis plant in Delfzijl, The Netherlands.
