ERJ spotlights leading-edge elastomer/rubber design, materials and manufacturing technologies
Kraiburg TPE has introduced a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material designed for wireless earbuds and other consumer electronics requiring integrated LED lighting.
According to the company, its Light Effect TPE combines "high light transmission" with a soft-touch surface, while offering adhesion to polypropylene (PP) for overmoulded components.
The material is intended for applications including LED status indicators, touch-control areas and illuminated branding elements, enabling LEDs to remain concealed when switched off while providing uniform light transmission during operation.
The German compounder said the material also features low odour and low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, making it suitable for products that come into direct contact with the skin.
The TPE is designed to provide durability under repeated use and offers UV and weather resistance for long-term performance, the company added.
For manufacturers, the material provides "excellent adhesion" to PP, supporting overmoulding of soft and rigid components. It also offers flow properties suited to complex part geometries and lightweight product designs.
According to the company, the series complies with the IEC 61249-2-21 halogen-free standard.
In addition to wireless earbuds, the material is intended for smartwatches, wearable devices, smart home products, gaming controllers, household appliances, displays and LED indicator components.
