Facilities in China and Indonesia now produce TPO-based reinforcement carbons for application in tires
Boston, Massachusetts – Cabot Corp. has started the production of circular reinforcing carbons at its manufacturing plants in Asia.
In an 18 Feb statement, Cabot said its facilities in Cilegon, Indonesia and Tianjin, China had been validated to produce circular reinforcing carbons, supplied under the company’s ‘Evolve’ sustainable platform.
The carbon black products, intended for tire reinforcement, are produced using end-of-life tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) and are certified by ISSC+ through a mass balance approach, Cabot said.
With the validation, Cabot now has circular reinforcing carbon production capability across all major regions including Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Noting Cabot's "deep commitment" to sustainability, VP and head of Reinforcement Materials' sustainability, Aatif Misbah, said scaling circular carbon capabilities will help strengthen Cabot’s position in the tire industry.
In addition to the newly validated sites in Asia, Cabot’s manufacturing facilities in Ville Platte, Louisiana; Maua, Brazil; and Valasske Mezirici (Valmez), Czech Republic have been validated by ISSC+.
