ADEME-backed project targets belts, mechanical components and digital integration
Paris – Hutchinson SA has been selected as a partner and supplier of belts to eBDC France (electric bike drivetrain components) initiative, launched by the French environmental transition agency ADEME.
With 28 partners, the project aims to develop a complete “made in France” electric bicycle drivetrain system under the France 2030 programme, said Hutchinson 15 Dec.
The project will involve a “patented next-generation synchronous belt,” designed to be more durable, quieter and maintenance-free compared to conventional belts.
Hutchinson said it will supply specialised materials made with a high proportion of bio-based and recycled resources.
The drivetrain will also feature mechanical components, including chainrings, pulleys, and tensioners, that integrate seamlessly into the system.
While the initial focus is on bikes, Hutchinson said the new belt technology could support expansion into other e-mobility segments, including scooters and motorcycles.
The eBDC France project is being developed within the framework of France 2030, a investment programme designed to accelerate innovation and industrial development in strategic sectors.
