Sensor system enables tractor operators to directly track operating conditions, is also relevant to car tires...
Nokia, Finland – Nokian Tyres has launched a 'next-generation' smart tire technology for agricultural machinery, featuring advanced pressure monitoring and load-sensing capabilities.
The Intuitu 2.0 Smart Pressure Assistant technology was developed for the group’s Soil King VF tractor tires, according to Nokian Tyres’ 30 Oct release.
The innovation is claimed to optimise the performance of agricultural machinery: maximising productivity, lowering fuel consumption, protecting soil and extending tire life.
Using built-in sensors inside the tires, the system calculates a tractor’s actual operating weight and usage conditions, Nokian Tyres explained.
Based on this data, it provides tire pressure recommendations directly to the user via a mobile application – removing the need for time-consuming calculation processes and costly equipment
Correct tire pressures minimise soil compaction and help agricultural professionals make the most out of their equipment, the tire maker further pointed out.
With Intuitu 2.0, “we are offering agricultural professionals a groundbreaking technology that delivers clear, practical benefits to improve their daily work,” said Paolo Pompei, president and CEO of Nokian Tyres.
Nokian Tyres went on to note that smart tire technology will in future be available for passenger car tires: providing valuable data to drivers and improving road safety.
"Smart features in tires will increase further, and smart systems will also be available for passenger cars, [helping] the driver to operate safely under changing conditions,” said Mika Penttilä, head of digital technologies at Nokian Tyres.
“In the near future, tires will continuously communicate with vehicles’ brake and assist systems, generating real-time data on the condition of the road surface and the overall driving conditions,” added Penttilä.
