Milan, Italy – Pirelli’s ‘cyber tire’ has been named “vehicle-to-everything (V2X) innovation of the year” at the Autotech Breakthrough Awards 2025, which recognise advances in automotive technology.
In a 17 Oct statement, Pirelli said AutoTech Breakthrough recognised the system as “a key technology for the future of smart mobility,” enabling integration with autonomous and connected vehicles.
The cyber tire is described as the first intelligent tire system that collects data directly from the tire via embedded sensors and transmits it in real time to the vehicle’s electronic control systems.
Using Pirelli’s proprietary algorithms, the system measures parameters such as pressure, temperature, tread wear, and load, allowing onboard systems like ESP, ABS, and traction control to adjust dynamically for safety and performance.
Developed with Bosch Engineering, the technology also supports vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications.
Such capabilities can help share road-condition data, interact with traffic systems, and support fleet and urban mobility management.
“Cyber tire gives the tire a new role in the revolution currently taking place in mobility,” said Piero Misani, Pirelli CTO, noting that the system is already in use on high-end vehicles.
