No injuries reported but "damages are significant, and production will not be restarted in the near future"
Warsaw – Polish end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis company Contec has reported a fire that broke out in the night of 23–24 Aug at its facility in Szczecin, in northwest Poland.
In a social media post 26 Aug, Krzysztof Wroblewski, CEO and CTO of Contec said all employees were evacuated from the site and no injuries were reported.
However, he said, “unfortunately, the damages are significant, and production will not be restarted in the near future."
“It is incredibly painful to see our installation, which has operated safely for years, damaged in this accident,” said Wroblewski, noting that factory had achieved “excellent production results” recently.
Contec said it will provide updates regarding the impact of the fire on its operations as more information becomes available.
Operational since 2015, Contec has developed an ELT pyrolysis technology using ‘molten salts’ as a heat transfer medium.
The factory has a nominal processing capacity of 32 kilotonnes per annum and has recently been supplying tire pyrolysis oil to Orion for the production carbon black. (ERJ report)
