Facility in Casablanca to serve ‘several customers’ in the country, meet global growth
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB has announced plans to invest SEK100 million (€8.5 million) in a new aerospace sealing solutions production facility in Morocco over the next two years.
The unit, set for operation by the end of 2025, will establish a local presence for several customers in the country while increasing capacity to meet the industry's strong global growth, Trelleborg said 13 May.
To be located at the Midparc Industrial Freezone, near the Casablanca airport, the “state-of-the-art” plant will produce “a substantial part” of its energy supply from solar panels on rooftops.
The facility will initially have a surface area of more than 5,000 square metres, said Trelleborg, adding that the unit will be adapted to meet the stringent requirements of suppliers in the aviation industry.
According to Trelleborg CEO and president Peter Nilsson, Casablanca hasrecently developed into “a hub for aerospace companies.”
Meanwhile, Nilsson went on to say, no company in Morocco focuses on polymer seals for the industry.
“Our new facility will be an important step in supplying our customers locally," the Trelleborg leader said.
Furthermore, the Swedish group anticipates that the new plant to increase its global capacity for "an industry expected to continue to grow strongly for many years."
In terms of workforce, Trelleborg said it would partner with the Moroccan aerospace training centre, IMA, to tailor education for prospective employees.
The Swedish polymer group already operates an automotive boots production facility in Morocco.
The unit in Kenitra has been operational since 2021 and is Trelleborg’s first production facility in Africa.
