Trelleborg supporting relief efforts on Sri Lanka
TRELLEBORG, Sweden (Jan. 4)--Trelleborg A.B., which operates two tire plants on Sri Lanka, is working with relief efforts on that island nation along with looking at efforts to help employees rebuild houses that were demolished in the recent tsunami disaster throughout the Indian Ocean basin.
Trelleborg has about 800 employees on Sri Lanka, making industrial tires at factories in Kelaniya and Malwana. As of Jan. 1, Trelleborg said it believed none of its employees there was missing, based on reports from local authorities.
The firm said it continues to gather information to establish the certainty of this and that some of the employees have lost their homes.
Trelleborg has allocated $300,000 for relief efforts on Sri Lanka and $15,000 each to the Red Cross and Save the Children and has provided food, medicine and clothing to disaster victims. Individual Trelleborg employees also have donated money toward relief efforts.
Trelleborg said its plants are intact and producing again.
