Performance Fibers to build second PET fibre plant in China
Colonial Heights, Virginia --Performance Fibers, the former Honeywell fibres business, will build a second polyester fiber and fabric plant in Kaiping, China, to meet demand from China's growing automotive market.
Performance Fibers said the facility will come on stream in 2006, doubling its annual production capacity for dimensionally stable polyester in China to 60 000 tonnes. The company did not disclose its budgeted investment for the factory.
Additional expansion projects already are planned at the Kaiping site to double capacity again by 2008, according to Greg Rogowski, president and CEO. It only recently doubled capacity at its 12-year-old Kaiping plant to 30 000 tonnes.
"This second expansion in two years demonstrates our commitment to supply dimensionally stable polyester to our customers worldwide," Rogowski said. "Our global footprintà has positioned us to meet the needs of our customers and their markets wherever they are around the world."
The company markets its fibers under the trade name DSP fibers.
