EU car registrations slump in February

Brussels--Registrations of new cars in Europe fell in the month to 28 Feb, and in the two months to 28 Feb, 2005. Since the start of the year registrations in the EU15 grouping of countries fell 1.5 percent, to 2.12 million units (2.15 million); sales in the EFTA countries fell 7 percent and sales in the new member countries fell 15 percent. Across the combined region, total sales fell 2.3 percent, to 2.274 million units, (2.328 million)

In terms of manufacturers, BMW group showed an increase in registrations of 11.6 percent with the BMW brand showing 17.7 percent growth, compared with a decline for the Mercedes brand of 9.6 percent.
