Seasonal road accidents prove importance of winter tires, ATS says
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Birmingham, UK – The number of road accidents in winter proves the need for cold weather tires, according to tire distributor and service provider ATs Euromaster.
ATS cited statistics released this week by the Department for Transport that said snow and ice caused more than 6000 road accidents in Great Britain in 2012. The data shows that it was motorists who “felt the brunt of the treacherous conditions” with 5070 car accident being attributed to snow and ice-covered roads. A further 324 light goods vehicles also involved in accidents due to wintry conditions.
These figures indicate that cold weather tires are a straightforward and cost-effective way to help motorists and fleet drivers stay safe and mobile in winter, ATS said.
Peter Fairlie, ATS Euromaster’s Group Sales Director, said, “Don’t wait until your light commercial vehicles become stranded and can’t make deliveries, or one of your company cars slides out of control and causes an accident.
“Fitting cold weather tyres is a straightforward and cost-effective way to help your fleet not only stay safer when the temperatures plummet, but mobile too."
