Michelin recognises six 'outstanding' suppliers

Clermont Ferrand, France – Tire maker Michelin has presented awards to six of its suppliers in recognition of their “exceptional” contribution to the group’s operations in 2011 and 2012.

The awards were made at Michelin’s Clermont-Ferrand headquarters in a ceremony attended by Jean-Dominique Senard, CEO of Michelin, Luc Minguet, chief procurement officer, and members of the Michelin executive committee.

This year, three suppliers received the Quality Prize: Saarstahl, a German manufacturer of metal reinforcements, in the raw materials procurement award category; Avasarala, an Indian precision machinery manufacturer, in the industrial procurement category; and Europcar, a French rental car company, in the service procurement category.

An Innovation Prize was also awarded to long-standing Michelin supplier Siemens VAI, for optimising its processes through continuous improvement.

For the first time, a Michelin Performance and Responsibility Prize for outstanding performance in corporate social responsibility was awarded following an assessment by an outside organisation. The winner was Umicore, a Belgian performance materials manufacturer.

A Special Prize was awarded to Turkish textile reinforcement manufacturer KordSA Global, for special efforts during the October 2011 floods in Thailand to keep supplies flowing.
