K&K extruder system can make rubber strips from 0.5 to 4 mm
ERJ staff report (DS)
Hanover, Germany -- Historically, any one who wanted a rubber strips of around 1mm thickness had to use a calender. Now, K & K Industrievertretungen GmbH has developed an innovative Mini Roller Head System for the manufacture of strips of thickness 0,5 to 4 mm up to a width of 120 mm. The company says it works at high speed and at a low temperature.
The new system consists of a simple, temperature-controlled extrusion head which can be connected to any available extruder. A clamp connection can be equipped with a breaker plate and screens, if necessary. Moreover, the extrusion head is tiltable by means of a hinge in order to remove compound and to exchange the head inserts. Differently designed head inserts can be adapted to the final product with regard to width and thickness.
The calender of the new system is provided with temperature controlled rolls having one-sided bearings. A stable arrangement of bearings is important to ensure constant, uniform strip thickness. Both rolls are driven separately and thus, allow the adjustment of a friction ratio.
Depending on the requirements, both rolls can be equipped with exchangeable and profiled sleeves.
The unit can operate at up to 60m/min, and up to 1200 kg/hour, depending on compound characteristics
