PAH ban may be extended to non-tyre goods

Leverkusen, Germany -- Dr. Guenther Weymans, Head of the Technical Rubber Products business unit of Lanxess AG, said the ban on labelled oils in tyres may be extended to non-tyre rubber goods. "There are not yet any binding upper limits for the levels of PAH in rubber products. However, experts predict that there will be a rapid response to this from legislators in Europe and the United States."

He continued, "But there is more than just an environmental argument to this decision. It is quite likely that consumers will become increasingly aware of the PAH issue over the medium term. So it makes sense to make the changeover in good time."

Weymans said Lanxess offers oil-extended elastomers which use clean oils "across our entire portfolio."
