Pelmar subsidiary enters custom compounding business
ERJ staff report (DS)
Yokneam, Israel -- TGL S.P. Industries Ltd. (TGL), has started production in a new custom compounding plant in Yokneam, Israel. The new plant enables TGL to serve its own needs for compounds, with spare capacity available to sell on the open market. The new tangential line adds to an existing intermeshing line at the plant. TGL claims it is, "the largest custom compounder in the region with capabilities of over 1,500 metric tons per month."
TGL's main market is the military and defence industries and it is one of the largest manufacturers in the world of armoured vehicle road wheels under vehicle components, tracks and pads. The stringent specifications are forcing TGL to ensure the highest accuracy, consistency and dispersion of its compounds.
The new plant, at an investment of almost $4 million, is composed of a Farrel 200 litre mixer and features automatic discharge, cooling and a stacking line. This combined with fully automatic weighing and charging systems for carbon black, silica, oil and small chemical ingredients will enable TGL to continue and meet the extremely high technological requirements of its customers.
TGL said its laboratories have also been completely refurbished and new instrumentation added as well as two skilled chemists and engineers who have been recruited. Consequently TGL was qualified and received a grant from the Chief Scientist in the Ministry of Industry for Nano Technology Research Projects.
The official opening ceremony will be held on site, on 27 July in the presence of Israel's Minister of Industry & Commerce (former Minister of Defence) and General (Res) in the Israel Defense Forces. TGL is a subsidiary of Soltam Industries Ltd., and the Pelmar Group and has been in production of rubber to metal bonding for the last 45 years.
