NR prices hit records around the world
ERJ staff report (DS)
Singapore -- Prices of natural rubber hit record highs around the world, as floods restricted supply out of Thailand and other producing nations.
In Tokyo, the six-month contract on Tocom hit a high of yen 351 / kg ($4.33). Shorter-dated contracts were priced slightly lower.
In Singapore, business was most brisk in short-dated contracrts, with trades for December RSS3 running around $4.20/kg and TSR20 priced at $4.03/kg
In India, the National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE) recorded prices above Rs204 / kg ($4.61) with contracts for January priced higher than December contracts
In China, the Shanghai Futures Exchange saw prices of Yuan 32.7 per kg ($4.90) for some large contracts.
Buyers for large tyre companies expressed concern over the state of the market and suggested that figures coming out of the producing countries did not accurately reflect the true supply situation, which was leading to speculation and excessive prices.
