Malaysian NR production jumped in October

Kuala Lumpur - Malysia's production of natural rubber (NR) jumped in October 2010, to 94 078 tonnes. This was up by 21.2 percent on the same month a year ago, and up by 26.2 percent over the previous month.
Exports for the month reached 77 923 tonnes, down by 4,258 tonnes (-5.2 percent) on October 2009, but up by 9160 tonnes (+13.3 percent) over the previous month. The biggest share of NR exported was Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) at 89.8 percent of which 54.0 percent was SMR 20.
Imports for the month totalled 61 084 tonnes, down by 18.1 percent on the year-before figure and by 4673 tonnes (-7.1 percent) compared with the previous month. Latex concentrate was the main type of rubber imported and accounted for 49.7 percent of total imports.
Domestic consumption in October reached 37 316 tonnes, down by around 10 percent on the year-before figure, but up by 1940 tonnes (+5.5 percent) when compared to September 2010.
In October 2010, the average monthly price of NR continued to increase. The average price of latex concentrate rose by 7.3 percent to 763.79 sen, while the average price of SMR 20 went up by 11.8 percent to 1155.45 sen month-on-month. Year-on-year comparison also recorded higher increases where the average price of latex concentrate and SMR 20 increased by 57.8 percent and 52.7 percent respectively.
