US declares rubber goods as using child labour
ERJ staff report (DS)
Washington DC -- In its latest listing of goods produced using child labour, issued 15 December, the US Department of Labour claims that rubber goods from Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Liberia and the Philippines all use child labour. In addition, the report says rubber goods from Burma are created using forced labour.
The International Labor Rights Forum said in a 15 Dec. press release that as part of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorisation Act of 2005 (TVPRA of 2005), DOL's Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) was tasked with "develop[ing] and mak[ing] available to the public a list of goods from countries that the Bureau of International Labor Affairs has reason to believe are produced by forced labor or child labour in violation of international standards."
