Indian government defends GM rubber trees

New Delhi - The Indian government, through its Ministry of Environment and Forests has written to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board defending its policy on planting genetically-modified clones of the rubber tree, Hevea Brasiliensis.
The Kerala State Government is resisting a plan by the MoEF to plant some GM trees developed by the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII). The Kerala government argues that the trial would create problems with bio-diversity.
