ICIS predicts Asian SBR shortages on shut-downs
ERJ staff report (DS)
Singapore - A report from ICIS suggests that two Asian producers of SBR are to close lines for maintenance, leading to potential shortages in the region from March. SBR has been tight for some months, since tyre demand recovered more quickly than expected after the Western recession.
ICIS quoted un-named company sources saying “South Korea's LG Chem would shut down all its synthetic rubber units at Daesan in mid-March for maintenance.â€
In addition, ICIS said, “Taiwan's TSRC Corp would later begin a month-long turnaround at its 100,000 tonne/year styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) plant at Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in April.â€
