Japan's car production jumped 21.1% in 2010

Tokyo - The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers' Association (JAMA) has published end of year statistics for Japan's automobile and motorcycle production and export markets.
According to the 31 Jan report, car production in December 2010 was down 5.1 percent compared to the same period in 2009. However, automobile exports during the same period had risen by 16.7 percent from the previous year.
In the motorcycle business, production increased by 5.8 percent to 54 913 units in Dec 2010 compared to the same period the year before. Motorbike exports were up by 8.4 percent.
During the 2010 calendar year, automobile production rose by 21.1 percent, while motorcycle production increased by 3 percent compared to 2009 levels. JAMA said in its statement that this was the first production increase after two and four years of downturn respectively.
Vehicle exports increased by 33.8 percent in 2010, the company said, while motorcycle exports in 2010 decreased, for the fourth consecutive year, by 9.3 percent.
