New clinical guidelines on screening for bladder cancer
ERJ staff report (DS)
Washington DC - The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has updated its guidance on screening for bladder cancer. The update does not recommend any changes.
Bladder cancer is the fourth most commonly diagnosed
cancer in men and the ninth most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the United States. Workers in the rubber industry are known to be especially at risk from the illness.
Following a study, the USPSTF concluded that current evidence was insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening for bladder cancer. The group therefore made no recommendation to screen or not to screen.
