Synthetic rubber prices rise in China
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing -- Prices of synthetic rubber and especially materials for the tyre industry are on a sharp upward trend in China. The increase is affecting the profitabilirty of China's tyre makers. According to the China Rubber Industry Association Tire Branch Statistics, sales revenue at 44 tyre makers increased on average by 22.4 percent year on year in the first seven months, but gross profits fell 14.2 percent, due to significant increase in raw material costs.
A Chinese-language report on the CRIA website lists the price increases this year, saying SBR prices have nearly doubled and BR prices are up by 70 percent.
Rubber prices are still rising, despite a reduction in the price of butadiene monomer, said the report.
