Akron, Ohio - Responding to rumors that it would be enacting layoffs at its Gadsden, Alabama, tyre plant, Goodyear said the facility's production schedule is simply being adjusted.
A spokesman for the Akron-based tyre maker told Tire Business, “These aren't layoffs; these are just changes to our production schedule for a two week period.
“Goodyear's goal is to make the right tires at the right time for our customers and consumers and not pursue volume for volume's sake. As previously announced, we are reducing production on tyres that do not align with our successful strategy of targeted market segments.â€
The adjustment period is effective from 1pm 29 Sept to 1am 14 Oct, according to the spokesman.
About 10 percent of the total workforce - 157 employees - at the Gadsden factory will not be scheduled to work during the full two-week period, he said, while an additional 14 percent - 231 workers - will be impacted partially and will work one week during this production period.
