Enviro mulls construction of tire recycling plant in Sweden 

Stockholm – Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) has unveiled plans for the construction of a major waste tire recycling facility in Sweden which it says can process half of the country’s annual end-of-life tires.

The company announced 28 May that it was preparing consultation documentation regarding the construction of plant in Lillesjö, in Uddevalla Municipality, and expected to submit a permit application to the local authorities in early autumn. 

Enviro did not disclose the financial details of the project.

The proposed project in west Sweden will have the capacity to recycle a maximum of 60 kilotonnes of waste tires per year, which according to Enviro corresponds to half of the country’s annual tire arisings. 

The project will be in addition to Enviro’s existing plant in Åsensbruk, Mellerud, which currently recycles 15ktpa of waste tires.

A final decision on the establishment of the plant will depend on several factors, such as securing access to end-of-life tires and agreements covering deliveries of recovered materials, the company said.

The move is part of Enviro's 'aggressive expansion plan' which was announced on 20 May.

As part of the plan, the Swedish recycler aims to establish up to four new facilities per year to ultimately build 30 plants by 2030. West Sweden and Central Europe have been identified as initial priority markets.

Enviro has developed a patented technology to recover carbon black, oil and steel from end-of-life vehicle tires.
