Tire shipments surpass 2019 levels for the second month in a row
Beijing – China exported 47 million units of ‘new rubber tires’ in April 2021, up 70% from a year ago, according to state figures.
The value of exports in April as presented in US dollars shot up 63% year on year, to $1.3 billion (€1.0 billion), said China’s General Administration of Customs.
This is the second month in a row that tire exports have surpassed the pre-pandemic levels. In April 2019, the country exported 43 million units of tires, worth $855 million.
The weight of tire exports in April 2021 jumped by 57% compared to April 2020, to 550,000 tonnes.
Over the first four months of 2021, China exported 189 million units of tires, a 45% rise year-on-year. Export value leapt 37% from the same period in 2020, to $5.2 billion. Volumes in tonnage climbed by 36% to 2.3 million tonnes.
The country produced 83 million units of tires in April 2021, flat from a month ago and up 27% year-on-year.
Production over the first four months was 298 million units, up 41% from the same period in 2020, said China’s National Bureau of Statistics.
