Malaysian group says will continue efforts to improve the welfare of employees
Shah Alam, Malaysia – Top Glove has announced that it has resolved “all eleven” International Labour Organization (ILO) indicators of forced labour, verified by an independent auditor.
UK consultant, Impactt Ltd, which has been advising Top Glove on measures to improve its labour policies and practices since July 2020, verified the resolution of all indicators on 22 April, said the Malaysian manufacturer on 26 April.
Top Glove has been under scrutiny for its labour issues since July last year when it was added to the US Custom and Border Protection (CBP) agency’s list for forced labour.
Since then, the Malaysian group has invested intensively in addressing its labour malpractices, which at the time it said were particularly related to payments made to agents of foreign workers.
“We assure our stakeholders of our continued efforts to improve the welfare of our employees… ensuring high quality welfare, health, safety, working conditions and living accommodation of our 21,000 strong workforce,” Top Glove said in its statement.
