Hutchinson on board Perseverance Mars Rover

Paris – Hutchinson SA has supplied two vibration isolation systems to the Rover Perseverance, which landed on Mars at the end of February after a seven-month voyage.

The French group provided vibration isolation for the Sherloc instrument – the Rover’s ultraviolet spectrometer – and isolation for the Rover and avionics support.

The latter, Hutchinson said in a recent statement, was developed in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, and is essential during the take-off phase and when “shocks” are recorded during the flight.

Paris-headquartered Hutchinson is to the fore in the development of advanced systems based on rubber and other polymer materials for the aerospace and transport industries.

Areas of expertise include the development of smart components with predictive maintenance capabilities and modeling tools to predict the behaviour of vibration control systems in complex applications and environments.
