Chemours ups sustainability efforts with new executive role

Wilmington, Delaware – Chemours Co. is stepping up sustainability efforts with an ambitious net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target and the creation of a new sustainability executive position. 

The US chemicals supplier is aiming to achieve a 60% absolute reduction in operations-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and net zero GHG emissions by 2050, according to a 15 April statement. 

As part of the move, the company has created a new chief sustainability officer role and appointed Sheryl Telford to lead its end-to-end sustainability efforts.

"Sheryl [Telford] has been central to Chemours sustainability efforts and I am delighted to have her in the chief sustainability officer role,” said CEO Mark Vergnano. 

According to Chemours, Telford has more than three decades of experience in the environmental, safety and health fields in the government, utility and chemistry sectors. 

She joined Chemours upon its creation in 2015 as director, EHS and remediation before being named VP environment, health, safety and corporate responsibility in 2018.   

In her new role, Telford will establish strategic collaborations and partnerships with external experts, companies, industries and organisations to advance Chemours' sustainability efforts.
