Nokian ramping up production at Finnish factory by 30%

Nokia, Finland – Nokian Tyres plc is increasing production capacity for passenger car tires at its Nokia manufacturing plant by 30% to meet growing demand in its main markets. 

The production ramp-up will involve the introduction of a fourth working shift and the creation of 70 new jobs in Finland, the tire maker announced 29 March.

With recruiting process underway, Nokian expects production to run four shifts by the beginning of August 2021 “at the latest.” 

“Demand for tires in our main markets has grown during the end of last year and the beginning of year 2021,” said executive VP Manu Salmi. 

“We will continue developing the Finnish factory and increase capacity and staff for the production of passenger car tires,” he added. 

Passenger car tire production in Nokia is currently running three shifts five days a week. After the recruiting, the factory will run four shifts six days a week.

In addition, Nokian said that is extending the flexible working hours contract covering passenger car tire production until the end of 2022 which it said will offer job security and protection against layoffs to employees.
