Conti recalling more than 11k SUV/CUV tires in North America

Washington DC – Continental Tire North America LLC is recalling 11,728 Continental- and General-brand SUV tires to recover roughly 39 that are suspected of having been overcured and could present a safety risk.

The tires being recalled were produced at Conti's plant in Mount Vernon, Illinois, in July and August and carry 20 different brand and line identities.

Conti said it suspected 39 of the tires subject to recall were overcured, leaving them susceptible to a sidewall break or belt-edge separation, which could lead to a sudden air loss or tread/belt loss. 

Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, Conti said in a notice published by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The tires being recalled were sold both as original equipment and for replacement market sale.

Continental will notify the owners who purchased the tires as replacement equipment. The vehicle makers that received the tires for OE fitment will conduct recalls to cover those tires, Conti said.
