Enviro to supply rCB for ‘customer-specific’ Trelleborg rubber compound 

Trelleborg, Sweden – Tire pyrolysis company Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) will be supplying recovered carbon black (rCB) to Trelleborg’s mixing operations in Forsheda, Sweden, for the production of a ‘customer-specific’ rubber compound.

The new supply deal follows ‘successful production tests and long-term collaboration’ between the two Swedish entities and marks a new application for Enviro’s rCB materials in the rubber industry, the recycler said in an 11 Nov statement.

Volumes and dates for future deliveries remain to be determined, the statement added. 

Trelleborg Mixing Forsheda manufactures compounds for various companies in the rubber industry and according to Enviro, it intends to “completely replace” virgin carbon black with Enviro’s rCB in one of its customer-specific compounds.

“A transition to recovered carbon black gives the rubber mixture the same or better performance than when virgin carbon black is used,” explained Carl Cumming, material development manager at Trelleborg Mixing Forsheda AB.

The move, he added, is in line with Trelleborg's goals of reducing emissions of CO2 (GWP) from both the company's processes and products.

Enviro has developed a technology for recovering oil, steel and carbon black from end-of-life tires.

The company claims that replacing fossil-based virgin carbon black with rCB can "greatly reduce" CO2 emissions (GWP) - by almost 2 tonnes CO2 per tonne of recovered carbon black.

Enviro's recovered carbon black has previously been introduced as a replacement for virgin carbon black in applications such as seals, gaskets, plugs and solid tires. 

The company has also delivered recovered carbon black to Trelleborg Lanka for use in the manufacturing of solid tires in Sri Lanka.
