Japanese supplier also raised prices for carbon black products in the US earlier this month
Tokyo - Tokai Carbon is increasing the selling price of all of its carbon black grades in Japan, the company has announced.
Effective 1 Nov, the price hike will cover all shipments from Japanese production plants, including those destined for exports, Tokai said in a 19 Oct statement.
The Yen11/kg (€0.08/kg) price increase is intended to cover the “significant cost increase” caused by the rising feedstock oil prices, Tokai explained.
The increase in cost, it said, was “difficult to absorb” only through cost-cutting in production.
“The price increase is necessary to ensure Tokai Carbon maintains the stable supply of our high quality products and services,” it said.
Earlier in this month, Tokai raised prices for carbon black products manufactured in the US.
The Japanese company has increased US prices between $40 (€33.6) and $50 per tonne. An EPA (environment protection agency) charge of $88 per tonne also will remain in place.
