Facility to focus on materials engineering for car bodies and energy-efficient tires
Luxembourg – Graphene nanotube supplier OCSiAl has opened a new R&D and technical support centre in Luxembourg, designed to develop next generation materials with graphene nanotubes.
The new centre is in addition to company’s current R&D and technical support locations in Asia and Eastern Europe, the company announced 30 Sept.
Spanning 350 sq m and featuring "more than 50 items of high-end equipment", the facility will tap into Europe’s advanced material engineering, particularly the automotive industry.
The lab, OCSiAl said, will focus on nanotechnology and materials engineering for light-weight and smart car bodies as well as energy-efficient and safe tires.
The major part of all developments will be targeted towards elastomers and thermoplastic composites enhanced with graphene nanotubes that will be widely applied in the cars of the future.
“We make it possible to make safer, lighter, smarter and more eco-friendly vehicles,” said Konstantin Notman, OCSiAl senior vice president, OCSiAl Europe CEO.
“Graphene nanotubes significantly enhance and even grant new properties to all the materials that are being used in cars.”
The company plans to launch the world’s largest graphene nanotube production facility in Luxembourg in 2023.
