Malaysian rubber gloves maker revises up amount following recommendations by independent consultants
Shah Alam, Malaysia – Top Glove Corp. has more than doubled its commitment to remediating migrant workers to address labour misconduct issues it is currently facing.
The Malaysian group has now revised the total remediation sum to RM136 million (€28 million), in accordance with recommendations by independent consultants, the gloves maker announced 6 Oct.
Top Glove had previously allocated a RM53 million budget to cover recruitment fees which were paid by the migrant workers to agents or other parties.
“Migrant workers will receive remediation over the next 10 months, from October 2020 onwards,” said Top Glove adding that it had already completed two rounds of remediation payments in August and September 2020.
Top Glove said it has submitted the necessary information to the US customs and border protection agency (CBP), which has placed a detention order on Top Glove products since mid-July.
