Response to “market situation and decline in demand" as group monitors Covid impact
Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. has announced a temporary ‘phased shutdown’ of some of its production plants across Japan, due to what it described as “market situation and decline in demand.”
In a 20 April statement, the Japanese tire & rubber group said it was idling a total of 11 manufacturing facilities to ensure the health and safety of its employees against Covid-19 and 'in response to the needs of customers.'
The shutdowns will be up to six working days and are scheduled around a three-day public holiday on 3-6 May in the country.
Bridgestone’s tire production plants in Kurume, Fukuoka; Tokoy; Nasu, Tochigi; Hikone, Shiga; Tochigi; Amagi; Fukuoka; and Hofu, Yamaguchi will be closed between 29 April and 8 May.
The group’s rubber track and hydraulic hose production in Kumamato, and hydraulic hose and push locks manufacturing unit in Seki, Gifu, will be closed on 1-2 May.
In addition, a steel cord production unit in Saga will be closed between 1 to 8 May, Bridgestone added.
